For more than three years, I’ve wanted to create an online course.
And for more than three years, I’ve found reasons not to.
Not because I didn’t have ideas or because I wasn’t capable. Mostly because every time I think of putting myself out there in new ways, a tiny voice in my head starts screaming like it’s being chased by a wendigo through a boggy swamp on a moonless night:
- “WHAT IF YOU FAIL?”
- “What if nobody signs up?”
- “What if people think your ideas are lame?”
It doesn’t matter that I’ve published almost 20 books, taught countless workshops, and spoken in front of hundreds of people over the years about writing, legends, and mindfulness.
The voice remains unconvinced.
When my literary agent told me we’d sold my first book, I didn’t celebrate. I had a full-blown panic attack. The kind where I genuinely thought I might be dying.
Apparently my nervous system’s response to achieving a lifelong dream was: “Excellent. Let’s prepare for immediate death.”
So when people assume confidence means not feeling fear, I always laugh.
In my experience, confidence is feeling the fear, listening politely while your ego invents increasingly creative disaster scenarios, and then doing the thing anyway.
The Thing I Did Anyway
After years of thinking about it, months of creating it, and countless conversations with that little voice that remains convinced I’m one awkward moment away from public humiliation…

Ironically, the entire course is about learning how to stay grounded when fear, anxiety, and self-doubt show up. Because they do show up. For all of us. The goal isn’t to eliminate them. The goal is to not let them drive.

Walk into the fear like a boss. Let it wrap its tendrils around your chest and squeeze until you think your heart might give out. Remind yourself that you’re not dying, you’re growing.
